I Wikipediaed it when it first appeared on the revised itinerary, so I’ll save you the trouble: it’s an island east of Madagascar known for its beauty and being the home of the Dodo bird. It has no indigenous people- the French, British, and Dutch all settled there at some point, and the languages spoken are French and English (yay for another French speaking country! So fun!) It was an awesome segue between Africa and India though! Most of the residents are of Indian descent (brought by the Europeans as indentured servants) and some are of African descent (brought over as slaves). It was not dissimilar to Hawaii and our time centered around the same activities of beaching, water sports, and hiking. We rented a car to drive across the island, but our car was a manual so that left Shira to do all the driving, but copiloting the left-side driving and searching for the perfect bungalow was so much fun. Once we’d found a sweet and reasonably priced hotel on the west coast of the island, we stayed put for two nights and just enjoyed the scenery, water, and little town. On our final day, we hiked this seven waterfalls area before rushing back to the ship. So little to report, but 3 days of relaxation was lovely!
